The study explores future development of green gas uses across different climate policy scenarios. Green gas production technologies provide flexibility to allocate renewable energy sources to supply a specific final energy mix filled by gas infrastructures. It allows the removal of greenhouse gases by switching from a fossil energy source. The paper aim is to perform a focused analysis of the green gas option in energy systems decarbonisation using a model-based approach to see how some countries technology appropriation evolves through XXIst century.

The results show that the use of green gas in uses decarbonisation depends on the structure of the uses. In a climate constraint scenario, the overall energy consumption and the gas energy consumption is shrinking, but gas and green gas are not negligible in this decarbonisation as gas remains consumed globally in many sectors in particular in power, industrial and transportation sectors. However, gas consumption would be reduced in residential and tertiary buildings in a climate policies scenario.
